April: a month to breathe deep

by Melissa Mroczek 02 Apr 2023

As we settle into spring, the reminder to breathe - in the midst of busy weekdays, hectic weekends and the ever-present chaos of world events - is the focus for the month. In the month of April, BREATHE DEEP is our theme. We are reminding ourselves that breathing is the simplest way to create a calm mind, body and spirit in spite of what’s going on around us.

As you gear up for end-of-school-year activities, graduations and the joy of the summer travel season, steady yourself and take a calmer, more present version of you into the warmer months. Taking time to slow down, breathe deeply, steady my mind and listen to my intuition is the simplest, best way I know how to feel that the uncontrollable world is somehow within grasp and I hope it is useful for you, too. Here are some incredibly simple ways to pause and breathe to bring calm to your world this month.

Deep Breathing

Deep, cleansing breathing that stimulates the vagus nerve activates the relaxation response of the parasympathetic (rest and digest) nervous system, making you feel less anxious. Try one of these techniques for deeply cleansing breathing.

4 Part Breathing / Box Breathing

With your mouth closed, gently inhale through your nose to a mental count of four. Hold your breath for a count of four. Exhale for a count of four and hold your lungs empty for a count of four before inhaling again. Repeat this cycle three more times for a total of four breath cycles.

Breathing Meditation

If you are indoors, light a calming candle, burn some cleansing incense or spray a refreshing room spray to prepare for your meditation (we recommend Lemongrass + Palo Santo or Basil + Mint scents). If you are able to meditate outside in nature, this is ideal for enhancing your connection with the earth and deeply cleansing your soul. Try this 6 minute breathing meditation.

April Poster + VIP Order Upgrade

Our VIP order bonus for April ( included in all orders over $50), is a thoughtfully illustrated newsprint poster and a sample of our Eau de Parfum perfume/cologne sprays. The perfect duo for getting you ready for spring, inside and out!

The featured poster artist is Rebekah Pilypaitis of Omaha. Rebekah is an Omaha- artist who has also been an art educator for Omaha Public Schools for 12 years. She went back to school to get her MA in illustration through Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and will be graduating within the year.  She loves working with many mediums, and often combines pottery with illustration. She is also a photographer and freelance illustrator and artist and recently opened The Pink Platypus Art Studio. Her art themes play with mental health/meditation, motherhood (she is a mom of 2 darling girls), with some political + environmental themes woven in.  Conservation is a topic that is near and dear to her heart—she started a collaboration with Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo a few years ago, where students put on an art show at the zoo (it’s on April 22nd this year) and all the funds are allocated by students to their favorite global conservation organizations. Talk about inspiring! We knew she was the perfect artistic talent to bring our vision for BREATHE DEEP to life.

Enjoy our fresh, new spring scents released last month or reorder your tried-and-true favorites like Blackout, White Oak Forest or White Sands and automatically get the VIP order upgrade by spending $50.
